Leading Western Cape boxing promoter Jackie Brice has wasted no time in securing the signatures of Lwando Mgabi and Sihle Jelwana for the vacant South African junior-bantamweight title on Friday, 27 September.
Brice of Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions (JBBP) has signed both Eastern Cape-born boxers to fight for the title, which became vacant after Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu relinquished it to pursue the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-bantamweight crown currently held by Japanese boxer Kosei Tanaka.
Cafu from Duncan Village in East London is going to challenge Tanaka in Tokyo, Japan, in less than two months’ time.
“I’m not disheartened by the non-support of the various departments of sport. We soldier on and we believe our actions will speak much louder than words,” Brice said.
Meanwhile, Western Cape female bantamweight titlist Simamkele Tutsheni is set to challenge reigning SA junior-featherweight champion Nomusa Ngema in the same bill. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
