After leading his boxer Ricardo ‘Magic Man’ Malajika to a second successive world title defence, boxing trainer Manny Fernandes is impressed with how his charge has grown from strength to strength.

Malajika stopped Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo in the 11th round to retain his International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-bantamweight title at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park, Elurhuleni, on Friday.

“I think it was an excellent fight. We were cautious in the first couple of rounds. We were taking him to the deep waters and making sure that we take all his power out,” Fernandes said.

Fernandes added: “Ricardo was unbelievable. Sigqibo had never been knocked out before. Rhis speaks volumes about Ricardo Malajika.”

The 25-year-old Malajika won the IBO yile after he defeated Argentine boxer Kevin Luis Munoz at the Emperor’s Palace in September last year.
