South African athlete Udeme Okon claimed the 400-metre gold medal at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru, early on Friday morning, South African time.

The 18-year-old Okon clocked 45.69 seconds to win the race and gave South Africa her second gold medal as he beat Americans Jayden Davis in 46.08 seconds and Sidi Njie in 46.29 seconds.

Paris Olympics silver medallist Bayanda Walaza was the first South African to bag a gold medal after he won the 100m this week.
