Once regarded as the next best thing to happen to South African boxing, Lwando Mgabi believes he still has a lot to offer in the fistic sport as he’s preparing for the vacant SA junior-bantamweight title fight against Sihle Jelwana later this month.
This fight between the two Eastern Cape-born boxers is going to be promoted by Jackie Brice’s Jackie Brice Boxing Promotions (JBBP) at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Friday, 27 September.
“I’m very happy. I have always wanted to fight for the SA title. I wanted to be like Azinga (Fuzile), who fought for the SA title in his fifth fight,” Mgabi remarked.
Duncan Village-born Mgabi added: “Jelwana knows that he’s coming here to lose. There’s no way that he’s going to win this fight.”
Jelwana, who was born in Komani in the Eastern Cape, will be making a second attempt at winning an SA title as he lost to Jackson Chauke in a fight for the national flyweight crown in July 2019. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
