Bafana Bafana survived a scare as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Uganda’s Cranes in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Friday evening.

Lyle Foster broke the deadlock when he put the ball between the legs of Cranes goalkeeper Isma Watenga to give Bafana the lead in the 14th minute following a pass from Khuliso Mudau.

After trailing by an odd goal at the break, the Cranes started the second half brightly scoring twice in a space of two minutes. Denis Omeda equalised in the 51st after he beat Bafana goalkeeper Veli Motha with a scorcher. Two minutes later, Rogers Mato spotted Motha off his line and rifled a fierce shot past him to give the Cranes a 2-1 lead.

Just as everyone thought the Ugandans had a win in the bag, Thalente Mbatha popped in and equalised for Bafana in referee’s added time.
