Lusanda ‘Mexican’ Komanisi has come out of retirement less than a year after he hung up his gloves following two successive defeats.

The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight and South African lightweight champion announced his retirement after he was stopped in the fourth round by unbeaten Kaine Fourie in November last year.

Before that, Komanisi had suffered a third round stoppage loss to current lightweight titlist Khaya Busakwe in March.

And now Mdantsane-born Komanisi faces Tanzanian boxer Saidi Chino, born Said Mohamed Hassan, in a junior-lightweight bout at Mafia Hall in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, on Saturday, 5 October.

“I was planning to remain retired in my own country and fight outside only. But BSA had to know for clearance should I have to go fight somewhere,” the 34-year-old Komanisi said.

Chino will go to the Komanisi fight on the back of a points victory over former World Boxing Association (WBA) and IBO featherweight champion Simphiwe ‘V12’ Vetyeka last month.

Previously, the 27-year-old Chino had lost to South Africans Thato Bonokoane in December 2021 and Ludumo Lamati in March of the same year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
