Maintenance work, which is being done at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London has forced Chippa United to move their matches to Gqeberha.
The pitch at the East London venue was in atrocious condition when the Chilli Boys defeated Richards Bay FC 1-0 in a Betway Premiership match last Saturday.
“Despite the victory, we acknowledge the challenging conditions of the pitch, which were a result of severe weather conditions across the Eastern Cape, including heavy rains and even snow in certain areas,” a Chilli Boys statement said on Monday afternoon.
“The extreme weather caused significant damage to the drainage system at Buffalo City Stadium, compromising the quality of the field. As a club committed to upholding the highest standards of football, we have decided to take immediate action by repairing and upgrading the drainage system.”
The statement added: “This process will take approximately five weeks, during which the stadium will be closed to allow for the necessary work to be completed. As a result, our upcoming fixture against TS Galaxy FC, scheduled for the 29th of September, will be moved to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
“As a token of appreciation for your continued support, there will be buses available to transport fans from Buffalo City Municipality to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The buses will depart at 8am on Sunday, ensuring you can arrive in time to cheer on the team.”
