Ntethelelo Nkosi’s days as a South African junior-welterweight champion are numbered if his opponent Sanele Msimang is to be believed.

Msimang has said that he’s got a mission, which is to go to Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park and dethrone Nkosi when the two KwaZulu-Natal boxers clash on Saturday next week.

Nkosi will be attempting to make a successful first defence of the title he captured after he stopped former champion Prince Dlomo in the ninth round in Durban last November.

“Every boxer goes to a fight with high confidence. I’m going to Johannesburg next week and I have promised my family that I will come back home with the title,” Msimang remarked.

Msimang, who is originally from Inchanga, added: “I’m very happy that my bosses at Sunshine Bakery gave me leave so that I can go prepare properly for this fight. I don’t want to disappoint my employers thus I’m going to win the fight, I’m confident about that.”

Msimang has done well in his last five fights, winning four and losing once. And this is the second time that he challenges for an SA title having fell short when he lost to former national champion Tshifhiwa Munyai in a lightweight contest in October 2021.

Meanwhile, Msimang defeated Luvuyo Mputi in a World Boxing Federation (WBF) International junior-welterweight title fight in August last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
