Veteran Cape Town-based boxing trainer and former professional boxer Emil Brice passed away at his home early on Thursday morning. He was 66.

The sad news of Emil’s passing was confirmed by his brother Jack Brice, who is a Cape Town-based boxing promoter.

“My brother Emil passed away at 3am this morning,” Jack said confirming the death of his brother.

Emil succumbed to death following a long battle with cancer. His condition started to get worse earlier this year and he even spent some time in hospital.

Meanwhile, Emil made his professional debut as a boxer with a win over Org Slabbert in March 1978 and his last fight was a loss to Bobby Chisale in April 1983.

Emil was in Lunga Sitemela’s corner when he stopped Sibusiso Zingange in the 10th round to win the South African junior-lightweight title in May 2022. He also led Sitemela to World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-lightweight glory following a third round stoppage victory over Bostwana national Steve Bagwasi in Gaborone in June 2023.
