A tournament, which will take place on Saturday, 16 November, and features four Betway Premiership sides was launched in Gqeberha on Wednesday morning.
The four-team tournament called Home of Legends Cup will feature Chippa United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Lamontville Golden Arrows. The matches are going to be played at Gqeberha’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
“This football extravaganza will see Kaizer Chief, Mamelodi Sundowns, Chippa United and Lamontvile Golden Arrows competing to lift the Home of Legends Cup,” Eastern Cape MEC for Sport Sibulele Ngongo said.
“Today, we are excited to announce the launch of the Inaugural Home of Legends Cup. A cup that will be a premier football event aimed at celebrating the rich football heritage that South Africa has.”
Ngongo added: “It is intended to bring the experience of watching these great teams on the doorstep of Nelson Mandela Metro and Eastern Cape community. We are confident that the cup will help cover four strategic goals, which is community participation, economic growth, promote sports and tourism and legacy building.”
