Throngs of people are expected to converge at the King Phalo Airport in East London to welcome back home world champion Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu on Friday afternoon.

Cafu defied all the odds and defeated Japanese opponent Kosei Tanaka to win the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-bantamweight title in front of a hostile crowd in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday.

Ably assisted by his corner, which was led by his trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan, after dropping Tanaka in the fifth round, Cafu went on all the way to win the fight by a split decision.

Two judges – Phil Austin and Waleska Roldan had Cafu winning by 114-113 on their score cards while Jesse Reyes gave the fight to Tanaka by 114-113.

Meanwhile, former world champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga is also returning to East London after he lost his International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title to Japanese boxer Masamichi Yabuki in Japan last Saturday.

Both Hot Box Gym stalemates are scheduled to land at the King Phalo Airport from OR Tambo International Airport at 15h05.
