Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie is expected to announce the shortlist of candidates for positions in the board of Boxing South Africa (BSA) on Wednesday.
The shortlisting of candidates comes after nominations for positions on the board closed last Saturday. And interviews to get the seven-member board are scheduled to be held on Wednesday next week.
Four days later, McKenzie will consult with associations before he announces the names of those who have made it into the new board the following day.
Ink Sport has gathered that Khulile Radu and Sakhiwe Sodo have been nominated. Radu and Sodo were members of the board, which has been accused of leaving BSA in dire financial straits. And the board they served in was lambasted by parliament’s portfolio committee on sport in August.
In late August, McKenzie dissolved the BSA board, which was led by Sifiso Shongwe after an appearance before parliament’s portfolio committee on sport.
Meanwhile, the new members are expected to bring stability to penniless BSA after the board, which was in office between December 2020 and December 2023, left the boxing regulator in financial ruin.
