A plan to make sure that Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya continues to climb up the junior-welterweight ratings in South Africa has been set in motion as he returns to action against Lindokuhle ‘Hitman’ Dlamini next month.
The former SA featherweight and junior-lightweight champion clashes with Dlamini from KwaZulu-Natal at the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday, 23 November.
Mboyiya put up an impressive performance, reminding boxing followers that he’s still a force to be reckoned when he stopped Chumani Tunzi in the sixth round to win the Eastern Cape junior-welterweight title two months ago.
Before meeting Tunzi, the Amalinda-based Mboyiya hadn’t fought since he was stopped in the fifth round by Khaya Busakwe, who’s now the reiging South African lightweight champion, in October 2022.
And following his win over Tunzi, Mboyiya gatecrashed the Boxing South Africa (BSA) ratings and is now rated number four.
Meanwhile, Dlamini from Empangeni drew with Sipho Mahlangu in Durban two months ago.
Trained by Sizwe Mthembu, Dlamini is also a former KwaZulu-Natal junior-welterweight and welterweight titlist. Rated eighth in SA, Dlamini has won three times, lost once and drew one fight in his last five fights.
