Tshifhiwa ‘Spider’ Munyai leaves for Mexico on Thursday where he has a date with experienced Mexican boxer Luis Miguel Roman Portillo at the Gimnasio Municipal Jose Neri Santos in Ciudad Juarez on Friday next week (Saturday, South African time).
It’s going to be the second time that the erstwhile International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight titlist fights outside South Africa this year. Munyai lost to unbeaten Russian boxer Emir Basirov at the Sports Palace Yubileiny, Almetyevsk, in Russia last month.
The 39-year-old Makwarela-born Munyai will leave South Africa for the Central American country together with his trainer Warren Hulley.
Meanwhile, Roman is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) junior-lightweight title contender, who was second best to Miguel Berchelt during a fight held in El Paso, United States of America (USA), in November 2018.
This fight against the former SA lightweight champion takes place six days before Roman celebrates his 39th birthday.
Roman, who boasts a professional record of 69 victories with 50 stoppages and 14 losses, has won eight of his last 10 fights as he defeated Nestor Adrian Maidana in June this year.
