It’s happiness all round as next weekend’s fight between Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya and Lindokuhle ‘Hitman’ Dlamini will go ahead as planned after it was in serious doubt following the Boxing South Africa (BSA) sanctioning committee’s refusal to sanction it.

Initially, the BSA sanctioning committee had refused to sanction the bout because it felt that the fight was “not evenly-matched” owing to Mboyiya, an erstwhile SA featherweight and junior-lightweight champion, being more experienced compared to Dlamini.

“The fight has been approved. Now we can focus on our final preparations,” Mboyiya’s trainer Lonwabo Witbooi said.

Mboyiya, an Eastern Cape junior-welterweight champion, has 18 victories with nine knockouts, six losses and a draw. On the other hand, Dlamini has four wins (two stoppages), two defeats and a draw.

Mboyiya is rated third in the junior-welterweight division while Dlamini is four places below him.

Meanwhile, Mboyiya’s fight against Dlamini is going to be the main supporting bout to the SA featherweight title contest between reigning champion Zolisa Batyi and Abdul-Aziz Kunert at the Orient Theatre in East London. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
