Acting Boxing South Africa (BSA) chief executive officer Tsholofelo Lejaka believes that Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie will finally deliver on his promise to announce a new BSA board.

McKenzie has failed to adhere to his own time lines in as far as the announcement of the new BSA board is concerned. With nominations having closed on Saturday, 26 October, McKenzie promised to announce the board on Monday, 11 November, however, he has proved just to be another politician with empty and unfulfilled promises.

“That process is the Minister’s. He’s the one that can confirm. But we, as Boxing South Africa on the strength of his commitment to us, are confident that he will deliver,” Lejaka said.

“He has promised us that it will happen and we are aware that there’s progress. Based on his reassurance to us and the process which we are aware is currently on going. We don’t have the slightest doubt that he will not deliver.”

McKenzie dissolved the BSA board three months ago and promised to attend to the matter speedily. The board was dissolved following a court challenge by the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA). – Monwabisi Jimlongo
