It looks like two-time world champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga’s days as a junior-flyweight boxer will soon be over and will be campaigning in a new division in the new year.
However, it’s still not clear whether the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title holder from East London will move up to flyweight or junior-bantamweight division.
“It’s a discussion we need to have. I’m not against him moving up a division. Actually, moving up could be a good decision. Firstly, there’s a couple of things I need to figure out,” Nontshinga’s trainer and manager Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan said.
Nontshinga, who celebrates his 25th birthday on Tuesday, 3 December, was stopped in the ninth round by Japanese boxer Masamichi Yabuki at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname, Japan, almost two months ago.
After making his professional debut with a win over Sandile Wessels in July 2017, Nontshinga has gone on to notch 13 victories (10 knockouts) and two defeats. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
