A promise made by Kay B Promotions boss Mzi Booi to steer East London boxer and Eastern Cape junior-welterweight titlist Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Mboyiya to a third South African title is about to be fulfilled.
Mboyiya is going to attempt to become a three-time and three-division South African champion when he challenges reigning SA junior-welterweight titlist Ntethelelo Nkosi next year.
The former SA featherweight and junior-lightweight champion is scheduled to challenge Nkosi at the Orient Theatre in East London in April. Ink Sport has been told that both Mboyiya and Nkosi have already agreed to face off.
“Mboyiya is going to challenge Nkosi in his next fight. We concluded negotiations with both of them before I travelled to Germany for the WBC convention,” Booi confirmed.
Rated number one in the junior-welterweight division, Mboyiya has done well this year, winning all his two fights as well as annexing the Eastern Cape title. He defeated Chumani Tunzi in August and Lindokuhle Dlamini last month.
Meanwhile, this is going to be the second time Nkosi from Mtubatuba in KwaZulu-Natal defends the SA title since he won it via a ninth round stoppage of Prince Dlomo in Pietermaritzburg in November last year.
Nkosi stopped Sanele Msimang in the first round during a fight which pitted KwaZulu-Natal boxers against each other at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park towards the end of October. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
