Three Eastern Cape boxers, their trainers and a manager might find themselves out in the cold in the new year after they travelled to Tanzania without being cleared by Boxing South Africa (BSA).
Boxers Asemahle Wellem, who is the reigning South African super-middleweight champion, Sihle Jelwana and Lusizo Manzana as well as trainers Phumzile Matyhila and Thembani Gopheni together with Wellem’s manager Siya Zingelwa will on their return to South Africa land in the dog box.
“They are going to learn the hard way as there’s a very strong possibility that they might be punished heavily,” a source told Ink Sport.
Wellem faces Frank Shagembe Katwila while Manzana is going to clash against Ibrahim Mafia whose full name is Ibrahim Mustafa Kodema and Jelwana meets Hussein Amiri Chaubaya popularly known as Kalolo Amiri in Dar-Es-Salaam on Thursday.
Ink Sport can also reveal that the deals to fight in Tanzania were brokered by Zingelwa. We have also learnt that Manzana’s manager Kwezi Booi took no part in securing the deal for his Mthatha-born boxer. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
