After their fight was cancelled in May last year, Simangele ‘Smash’ Hadebe and Mexican boxer Gabriela Sanchez ‘La Bonita’ Saveedra will finally test each other’s fistic skills in almost two months’ time.
Initially scheduled to face off last year, but the fight fell through following empty promises from a boxing promoter, the two lasses are now set to clash in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver female flyweight title contest in Mexico on Saturday, 5 April (Sunday, 6 April, South African time).
Rated by Boxrec as the fifth best female flyweight boxer in the world, the current South African female champion also occupies the number one spot in the SA bantamweight division.
“We’ve known about this fight since December. And we are currently training very hard,” Hadebe told Ink Sport.
The 2023 Female Boxer of the Year award winner, who’s also the reigning African Boxing Union (ABU) flyweight champion, will travel to Mexico together with her trainer Khangelani Jack and manager Colleen McAusland.
