Defending his crown as well as moving up the ratings in other world bodies is what International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-flyweight champion Mpumelelo Tshabalala regards as very important in his career.

However, Tshabalala is yet to defend the IBO title he won after he defeated Argentine boxer Junior Leandre Zarate in Midrand last September.

Currently, Tshabalala enjoys ratings in the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organisation (WBO). He’s 12th in the WBC, seventh in IBF and is rated sixth by the WBO.

“I’m not sure as to when my next fight will be. I’m just continuing with my training even though no fight has been scheduled for me yet,” Tshabalala remarked.

Tshabalala added: “At one stage, I was number four in the WBO ratings, but dropped to sixth because of lack of action. I need fights in order to keep my ratings. Be that as it may, I know that my time is gonna come.”

The former South African junior-flyweight champion from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni has won 11 fights with five of those wins coming from stoppages and only lost once.
