Following some impressive performances, Shervantaigh Koopman will finally get an opportunity to fight for the world title as he challenges Angolan boxer Uisma dos Ramos Lima in May.
The unbeaten Koopman, a former South African champion, will try to wrestle the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-middleweight title away from Lima when they clash at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday, 31 May.
The 32-year-old Lima, who was born in Luanda, Angola, won the IBO title after he outpointed Canada-based Indian boxer Sukhdeep Singh Bhatti in Ontario, Canada, last November.
“This is a great opportunity for me and I’m very happy about it. I’m training very hard as always. I wanna improve my boxing,” Koopman remarked.
Based in Porto, Portugal, Lima has an impressive record of 13 victories with nine stoppages and a single loss. On the other hand, Koopman has won all his 15 fights with 10 of those victories coming from knockouts.
“I don’t know much about him except that he was born in Angola and is now based in Portugal. He also throws a lot of punches and likes to overwhelm his opponents,” Koopman said. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
