The juggernaut that is Mamelodi Sundowns continued to collect points as they thrashed Orlando Pirates 4-1 in a Betway Premiership match at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday afternoon.

The walls started to collapse on top of Pirates when Sundowns defender Grant Kekana beat Buccaneers goalkeeper Sipho Chaine to give the Brazilians the lead in the 13th minute. 

Lucas Ribeiro Costa made it 2-0 in the 27th minute after he made a solo dash from his own half. This was Ribeiro’s eighth goal of the season. 

Namibian Deon Hotto gave Pirates some hope when he halved the deficit with his deflected shot, which beat Sundowns goalminder Ronwen Williams 12 minutes into the second half. 

Two minutes later, Ribeiro from Brazil scored his ninth goal of the season as he made it 3-1 with another crisp finish.  

The Tshwane giants continued to attack and their efforts were rewarded when Teboho Mokoena’s shot from long range beat Chaine in the 78th minute. 

Meanwhile, Magesi FC moved to 15th place on the Premiership standings after a 2-0 win over Cape Town City with goals Mncedi Vandala and Lehlohonolo Mtshali at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane.
