World rated boxer Siyakholwa Kuse is keeping boxing followers guessing his whereabouts as he’s rumoured to have found a new home in Gauteng after he allegedly left All Winners Boxing Club in Mdantsane.
Rated number three by the World Boxing Council (WBC), suspicions were raised when Kuse didn’t pitch up for training when other boxers returned to train at All Winners last month.
It’s now believed that the Mdantsane-born Kuse has or is going to join the Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni.
“I have heard that Kuse is coming to join the Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy,” a Gauteng-based Ink Sport source said.
Contacted for comment, Brian Mitchell, an erstwhile World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-lightweight champion, said: “For now, it’s just a rumour and I can’t say anything. I have heard that he’s keen on coming to Johannesburg.”
Kuse defeated Beaven Sibanda on points during a WBC Silver mini-flyweight title contest at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park last December. Interestingly, Sibanda from Zimbabwe is managed by Mitchell and trained by Vusi Mtolo.
Meanwhile, All Winners manager Mlandeli Tengimfene said when approached for comment: “I spoke to him on Friday and is still around. I’ll be surprised if there’s something he’s planning.”
On the other hand, efforts to get a comment from Kuse, a former South African minimumweight champion, failed as he didn’t pick up his phone. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
