Phikelelani ‘Stinger’ Khumalo is planning to upset John ‘Section 29’ Bopape as he doesn’t want the reigning South African middleweight champion to continue with his good run against KwaZulu-Natal boxers.

Khumalo challenges Bopape, who stopped Ayanda Mthembu, Snamiso Ntuli and Nkululeko Mhlongo in his last three fights against KwaZulu-Natal boxers. The two boxers are scheduled to square up against each other in an SA middleweight title contest at the Greyville Convention Centre, Durban, on Friday next week.

“We believe that we are ready for the fight now. We’ve been training very hard as we want to win the title,” the 27-year-old Khumalo remarked.

On Bopape having the better over his opponents from KwaZulu-Natal, Khumalo said: “He might have beaten boxers from KZN in the past, he’s not gonna do that to me. I’m gonna show him that I’m a different boxer compared to the boxers he defeated.”

Meanwhile, the former Lamontville Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United Diski Challenge player will go to the Bopape fight on the back of three wins from his last five fights.
