Former South African middleweight title contender Ayanda Mthembu’s boxing career is going to take him to far away Georgia in Esstern Europe next month as he’s pencilled to fight against unbeaten Irakli Melikishvili.

Mthembu, who once challenged reigning SA middleweight champion John Bopape, is set to collide with Melikishvili in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Saturday, 15 March.

“Yes, Ayanda is going to fight in Georgia next month. Everything has been agreed and we are just waiting for flight tickets now,” Ayanda’s promoter Zwilenkosi Magudulela confirmed.

Ayanda, who has not fought since his eighth round stoppage win over former Zimbabwean junior-middleweight champion Enock Msambudzi in February last year, is going to depart for Georgia together with his trainer Sizwe Mthembu.

Melikishvili is unbeaten in five fights, having stopped three of his victims while Ayanda has won eight times with six knockouts, eight defeats and two draws.
