Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie has boldly stated that he’s going to fix boxing as he claims that he knows the problems that continue to bedevil the fistic sport.

McKenzie, who was appointed as Minister of Sport by State President Cyril Ramaphosa after last year’s general election, seems to have made boxing his main priority.

“I sincerely want to say everything is about to change in boxing. All things are coming. We know the state that boxing is in. We know the problems of boxing. I know boxing and I see how boxing has fallen. We are going to fix boxing. I have a duty to lead the rise of boxing,” McKenzie said.

McKenzie added: “We are going to have provincial boards. We will have proper offices with proper equipment.”

Currently, Boxing South Africa (BSA) has five provincial managers, who oversee the sport across the country’s nine provinces.

Siya Vabaza-Booi is the Eastern Cape provincial manager and Mike Dube is her counterpart in KwaZulu-Natal while Mzoli Tempi oversees boxing in the Western Cape and Northern Cape.

On the other hand, Hloks Ramagole is in charge of three provinces – Gauteng, Free State and the North West while Oupa Lubisi oversees the fistic sport in Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
