Boxing South Africa (BSA) board chairperson Ayanda Zamantungwa Khumalo has made it clear that non-compliance by promoters is not going to be tolerated anymore.
Khumalo said this in the aftermath of the cancellation of the Starline Boxing Promotions tournament, which was scheduled for Greenwood Park Hall in Durban on Friday.
“This incident needs to be a lessson to all promoters that a new culture of compliance is now in place at BSA. No rules are going to be bent to accomodate any promoter who fails to comply and comply on time,” Khumalo said.
In a statement released by BSA on Friday morning, the regulator accused Starline Boxing Promotions boss Zandile Malinga of ignoring a cancellation letter, which she received on Tuesday. The statement further accused Malinga of reckless behaviour and undermining BSA.
It was further added in the statement that there will be repercussions for any BSA staff member who failed to do their duty.
The main priority should be the boxers , without boxers there is no BSA or even promotions of the sport . Why didn’t BSA release an official statement on Tuesday when they cancelled the tournament so athletes would have to sit at the weigh all day and starve , some of these boxers don’t have full family support . They travel by themselves and sit there starving only for the tournament to be cancelled in the evening . Surely there could have been a better way of handling this so that the boxers aren’t affected by it .
