Having last lost to a South African boxer in the flyweight division almost 12 years ago, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) champion Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke reckons that he’s going to continue wih his good run.
Chauke, a former South African flyweight champion, makes the first defence of his IBO title when he faces Ricardo Malajika at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park on Saturday evening.
“The first part to make the weight after a very successful camp we had. I’m hoping to have a good fight. I know it’s not gonna be an easy fight,” Chauke said.
On Malajika, the reigning IBO junior-bantamweight champion who moved down to the flyweight division, Chauke said: “I think he’s very strong mentally. He wants to become the first guy to stop me.”
Chauke, who celebrates his 40th birthday in May, wants to see whether Malajika can succeed where a number of boxers failed in the past.
“I haven’t seen any other flyweight that can beat me. Many have tried to move down to the flyweight division just to beat me and they have failed. I’m not worried about him because he’s gonna fail as well,” Chauke said. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
