With Mthatha boxer Siseko Makeleni continuing to play hide and seek, Isizwe Boxing Promotions acted fast and managed to get a new opponent for Hlumelo Gingxana for next Saturday’s fight at the King Hintsa FET College in Dutywa.
Gingxana is now going to face off against Maqhawe Damoyi in a vacant Eastern Cape lightweight title fight after both boxers signed contracts for the slugfest.
“We have signed new contracts, it’s Gingxana against Damoyi,” Lonwabo Witbooi, who trains Gingxana, confirmed.
Makeleni’s proposed fight against Gingxana collapsed after he told his manager Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe that he won’t be able to honour his contract with Isizwe Boxing Promotions as he’s not well.
“Makeleni told me that he’s got swollen legs and won’t be able to fight next week. I have since advised him to go see a doctor who will examine him. I also advised him to get a doctor’s certificate and then send it to me,” Hlombe said on Wednesday.
It has, however, been discovered that Makeleni, who left East London for his Mthatha home last December, was not training at all something which forced Sigcawu to look for another opponent for Ģingxana, who last fought when he defeated Bongani Mbiko at Ginsberg Hall, Qonce, in December.
On the other hand, Damoyi has been fight starved since he lost to Makeleni at the Tsolo Junction Hall, Qumbu, in December 2023.
