World champion Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu has responded to Australian boxer Andrew ‘The Monster’ Moloney, who called him out to defend his title against him.
Cafu, who is yet to make the first defence of the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior-bantamweight crown he won after he outpointed Japanese boxer Kosei Tanaka in Japan last October.
Already, Boxing 5, who promote the Duncan Village-born world champion, has announced that Cafu’s first title defence is going to be held here in South Africa.
“I’ll knock him out if that fight really happens. He even mentioned me on Instagram, he really wants the fight. I hope they give him a chance,” Cafu remarked.
Moloney, a 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, said on Boxing News: “I want this Cafu fight badly. I think it’s a fight that makes a lot of sense. My priority at the moment is to beat Cafu and become a world champion.”
Moloney, a former World Boxing Association (WBA) junior-bantamweight champion, added: “I know that I’ll need to go over to South Africa and fight him in his backyard, but that just makes it even more exciting for me.
“That’s the way you’re supposed to become a world champion. He’s the world champion for a reason and he’s undefeated, but I don’t believe he’s fought anyone as good as me. They are talking about May, so a training camp has pretty much started in the hope that this is going ahead.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
