Andrew ‘The Monster’ Moloney has called out world champion Phumelela ‘The Truth’ Cafu to defend his crown against him and the Australian doesn’t mind coming to fight in South Africa.
Duncan Village-born Cafu is due to make the first defence of the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) title he won after he defeated Japanese boxer Kosei Tanaka in Japan last October.
“I want this Cafu fight badly. I think it’s a fight that makes a lot of sense. My priority at the moment is to beat Cafu and become a world champion,” the Australian said on Boxing News.
Moloney, a former World Boxing Association (WBA) junior-bantamweight champion, has made it clear that he’s prepared to fly to South Africa in a bid to dethrone Cafu.
“I know that I’ll need to go over to South Africa and fight him in his backyard, but that just makes it even more exciting for me,” the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist said.
“That’s the way you’re supposed to become a world champion. He’s the world champion for a reason and he’s undefeated, but I don’t believe he’s fought anyone as good as me. They are talking about May, so training camp has pretty much started in the hope that this is going ahead.”
Meanwhile, Cafu’s trainer and manager Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan has revealed that Moloney is one of the boxers they are at pitting against his charge.
“We are in charge at the moment. We still want what’s best for Boxing 5 and Phumelela. I can reveal that Moloney is one of the guys in the mix,” Nathan said.
