One-time world rated boxer and erstwhile national titlist Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha is scheduled to square up against Phumlani Maloni later this month.

The former South African junior-flyweight champion from Mdantsane is going to clash with Maloni at a Xaba Promotions tournament in East London on Saturday, 29 March.

Tyirha, who is trained by Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njakanye in Duncan Village, East London, is rated sixth in the South African junior-flyweight division while Makhanda-born Maloni is ninth at minimumweight. And their upcoming fight is going to be in the minimumweight division.

Mdantsane-born Tyirha is on a drive to reclaim the lofty world ratings he once held before he was surprisingly stopped in the eighth round by Malawian journeyman George Kandulo at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) early in July 2023.

The loss to Kandulo came at a heavy price to Tyirha, who lost his ratings in the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the World Boxing Organisation (WBO).
