Kaizer Chiefs joined Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals after they defeated Stellenbosch FC 3-1 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday evening.
Amakhosi shot to the lead after Angolan defender Inacio Miguel converted a penalty in the 20th minute following a handball by Stellies’ Ismael Toure.
New Zealander Andre de Jong rose high and headed past Amakhosi goalminder Bruce Bvuma for an equaliser three minutes before full-time.
Amakhosi midfielder Pule Mmodi scored his team’s winning goal in referee’s added time. Match referee Sikhumbuzo Gasa seemed to be undecided and consulted with his second assistant Given Letlaka before giving Chiefs the goal.
A few minutes later, Mfundo Vilakazi scored Amakhosi’s third goal after Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stephens had messed up by lining at the Chiefs box during a corner kick. The ball was kicked out of the Amakhosi half and Vilakazi raced to score in an open net.
