Eastern Cape-based former national champions who are owed belts by Boxing South Africa (BSA) are urged to make submissions to BSA provincial manager Siya Vabaza-Booi before 13h00 on Tuesday, 11 March.

The call came as BSA is in the process of securing belts for all boxers who became outright owners between 2010 and now. Male boxers qualify for outright ownership after having successfully defended the South African title five times while females only need to have made three successful defences in order for them to become outright belt owners.

“Please kindly note that BSA will be procuring SA title belts for boxers, who successfully defended their titles, but never received their belts. For a boxer to qualify, you must have defended your title five times for males and three times for females from 2010 to date,” Vabaza-Booi said.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie made it clear during his speech at last month’s national boxing convention at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) that it was wrong for BSA not to have given belts to boxers who successfully defended their titles five and three times.
