Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) is returning to the boxing promotional space after an absence of more than a year due to its chairman Teris Ntutu’s busy schedule.
RAP last had a show when former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga successfully defended the title against Regie Suganob from the Philippines at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) early in July 2023.
“I’m going to license this year. And I have already told Mandla Ntlanganiso that I’m coming back,” Ntutu told Ink Sport.
Having promoted 23 tournaments since its promotional debut show in December 2014, RAP built a name for itself in the boxing fraternity as it launched many a boxer’s career including that of Nontshinga.
The 26-year-old Nontshinga, a two-time IBF junior-flyweight title holder, made his professional debut against Sandile Wessels at a RAP tournament held at East London’s Orient Theatre in December 2017.
For its efforts, RAP won the IBF Continental Africa Promoter of the Year for two years – 2018 and 2019 – in a row. The promotional outfit also walked away with the 2022 IBF Most Active Promotion in Africa award. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
