Matsatsantsa a Priori’s 15th position on the Betway Premiership standings forced the club’s bosses to pull the trigger on Hunt, who was on his second spell as their head coach.
“SuperSport United FC and head coach Gavin Hunt have reached a mutual agreement to part ways with immediate effect. The board and management of the club have expressed their appreciation to Hunt for the work he has done as head coach over many years,” a Matsatsantsa statement said.
“We remain convinced that Gavin still has much to contribute to South African and African football given his extensive knowledge and experience. We will always remain grateful for the impact he has had on the club and South African football.”
Matsatsantsa also announced that former Bafana Bafana goalminder Andre Arendse has now been elevated to the role of caretaker coach and will be assisted by the club’s goalkeeper coach Grant Johnson.
