Just a few months after she defeated current South African female junior-flyweight champion Nozwelethu Mathontsi in a non-title fight, Okuhle Mthi gets an opportunity to challenge for a provincial title.
Mthi challenges Eastern Cape female junior-flyweight champion Sibabalwe Gwebityala from Kuni village at the Scenery Park Hall in East London on Saturday, 5 April. Mthi from Mthatha is rated second in the South African ratings while Gwebityala is fourth.
Gwebityala, on the other hand, will be returning to the venue where she won the provincial crown after she defeated Zizo Skoti in March last year.
Meanwhile, Cape Town-based Skoti from Ngcobo will face Mathontsi in an eight rounds non-title junior-flyweight bout. Skoti lost to Owethu Rula in an Eastern Cape title fight at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Gqeberha, earlier this month.
On the other hand, former SA female junior-bantamweight champion Thema Zuma clashes with Babalwa Nonqonqotho in a six rounds bout.
Dududu-born Zuma, who was dethroned by Nosiacwase Dube-Mutavhatsindi last December, defeated Nonqonqotho in an SA title contest on points in Pietermaritzburg in November 2023.
Zuma is rated second in the junior-bantamweight division while Nonqonqotho is third. Nonqonqotho is also rated in second spot at bantamweight.
