After promising to do something with the serious lack of video assistant referee (VAR) in South African football, Minister of Sport Gayton McKenzie has declared that VAR will start being implemented this month.
While addressing a dinner with boxing legends at Freedom Park, Pretoria, on Monday evening, McKenzie insisted that he was going to introduce VAR into local professional football.
“Soccer only needs VAR, then we are getting out of there. And the VAR is coming, whether you like it or not. April is a month of VAR,” McKenzie said.
Top-flight football in South Africa has experienced some of the worst decisions by referees thus McKenzie has been pushing for the introduction of the VAR.
