Lwando Mgabi is scheduled to make the first defence of his South African junior-bantamweight title when he fights against number one contender Sechaba Zuma next month.
Mgabi had the SA championship belt strapped around his waist after he defeated Sihle Jelwana on points at the Sunningdale Sport Complex in Milnerton, Cape Town, in September last year. Now the Duncan Village-born Mgabi will travel to Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, for a date with Zuma on Saturday, 24 May.
“The contract has been signed and the fight is going to be held in Estcourt on the 24th of May,” Khayelitsha-based Mgabi confirmed.
According to Mgabi, his shootout against Zuma is going to be promoted by Hlula Dladla’s Hlula Dladla Boxing Promotions (HDBP).
The 23-year-old Mgabi has an unblemished record of seven victories with two stoppages. With a record of four wins with one knockout, two losses and a draw, Zuma hasn’t fought since his win over Mthobisi Nkosi at the Portuguese Hall, Durban, in August last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
