Making a name for himself and ensuring that he returns to world ratings are going to be the driving forces when Azinga ‘Golden Boy’ Fuzile squares up against Sultan Zaurbek in Kazakhstan on Saturday.
The 28-year-old Fuzile faces Zaurbek from Kazakhstan in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental junior-lightweight title fight at Barys Arena in Astana.
Duncan Village-born Fuzile, who left South Africa together with trainers Zolani Tete and Lonwabo Witbooi last Sunday, comes up against an unbeaten Zaurbek. The Kazakh has won all his 19 fights having stopped 13 of his opponents.
“Azinga has been in camp for about eight weeks preparing for Zaurbek. We took this fight very serious from the first time it was announced. We knew that this is an opportunity for Azinga to once again fight internationally and ultimately fulfil his dream of becoming a world champion one day,” Tete, who prepared Fuzile for this fight, said.
Tete, a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight champion, added: “We worked very hard, knowing very well that Zaurbek is not an easy opponent. We planned because Azinga really needs to win. We also need the win. All I want to say is that Azinga is prepared and ready for this fight. If it means that for him to win he has to break his hand in the ring, then so be it. He has sacrificed a lot while preparing for this fight.”
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old Zaurbek, who is a southpaw, will be fighting in his homeland for the first time since December 2021. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
