Azinga ‘Golden Boy ‘ Fuzile might have lost to Kazakh boxer Sultan Zaurbek, his team led by manager Mlandeli Tengimfene have declared their happiness with how he performed on Saturday evening.
The unbeaten Zaurbek won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental junior-lightweight title contest by a unanimous decision after he put up a good performance against Fuzile.
“We took this fight as we were gonna fight on the 30th of March. This fight was a short cut. It was a good opportunity worth taking with all its risks. We were going to be rated number two in the WBA and number five in the IBF had we won the fight,” Tengimfene said.
Tengimfene, who manages Fuzile, added: “As a team, we are happy with how Azinga fought. We fought against an elite and active boxer. Azinga proved that he’s in the same level. The plan was to gradually take Azinga to the world. He will now feature in a Golden Gloves tournament around August.”
Before facing Zaurbek, the 28-year-old Fuzile from Duncan Village in East London, hadn’t fought since his win over Namibian boxer Sebastianus Natanael in August last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
