KwaZulu-Natal boxer Snamiso Ntuli has accused Namibian boxing promoter Nestor Tobias of failing to pay him after his fight against unbeaten Paulinus Ndjolonimus from Namibia didn’t go ahead in Windhoek this past weekend.

This World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa super-middleweight title contest didn’t take place after Ndjolonimus withdrew following a bout of flu.

“I learnt a very hard lesson in Namibia. I’m really disappointed with what they did to me. I will never go fight there after the abuse I got this past weekend,” Ntuli said.

“I arrived there on Tuesday last week and then met my opponent the following day. And on the day of the weigh-in, I was told that my opponent had failed a doctor’s test. I only heard about that after I had already been weighed. Now I’m back home without having been paid my purse. This is bad, very bad. It’s demoralising.”

Contacted for comment, Tobias from MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy said: “I brought the guys from Durban and I treated them very well. The fight couldn’t go ahead because my boxer had flu. He was booked off by a doctor on the morning of the weigh-in. The fight was cancelled before going to the weigh-in. The guy from Durban weighed himself even though the fight had been cancelled.”

Tobias added: “I asked them to sit down and talk, they refused as they wanted to be paid a full purse. I wanted to pay them 10 percent of the purse as per the contract. They rejected the 10 percent. I lost a lot of money and they also lost because the fight didn’t take place.” – Monwabisi Jimlongo
