Kay B Promotions boss Mzi Booi has insisted that his next tournament is going to be held at East London’s Orient Theatre even though the much-loved venue is still being renovated.

Booi is optimistic that the 60-year-old venue’s refurbishment would be finished on time for his show, which is scheduled for Friday, 23 May. Initially, the tournament was pencilled for this coming Sunday.

This show is set to be headlined by a South African featherweight title contest between reigning champion Zolisa Batyi and Lindelani Sibisi.

“Renovations are going ahead at the Orient Theatre and I’m happy with them. We are going to host our tournament there,” Booi remarked.

Booi also gave clarification on Aphiwe Boyiya’s next fight, which is going to be a vacant SA junior-welterweight title contest against Sipho Mahlangu. The title became vacant after it was relinquished by Ntethelelo Nkosi, who’s taking part in the WBC Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia.

And after postponing the tournament, Booi indicated that he was trying to drop Mahlangu so that Boyiya could fight against Sibusiso Zingange, who’s rated number two in South Africa. However, that’s not going to happen anymore.

“Zingange is not in the picture anymore. Mahlangu’s contract is still valid and he’s going to fight against Aphiwe,” Booi said.
