Making his first defence of the World Boxing Council (WBC) bridgerweight title, Kevin Lerena stopped Ukrainian opponent Serhiy Radchenko at the SunBet Arena in Time Square, Pretoria, on Thursday evening.
It was an early birthday present for Lerena, who turns 33 on Monday next week, took only 16 seconds in the third round to stop his opponent as Radchenko’s corner threw in the towel.
Before stopping the Ukrainian, the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) cruiserweight champion decked Radchenko twice with straight left hooks in the second round.
Meanwhile, a vicious left hook from current IBO welterweight champion Thulani Mbenge floored Namibian boxer Emmanuel Mungandjela in the third round in a non-title bout.
