A 10-year trophy drought is over for Kaizer Chiefs after they annexed the Nedbank Cup following a 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening.

Uruguayan Gaston Sirino gave Amakhosi the lead from the penalty spot in the 10th minute after match referee Masixole Bambiso had adjudged Pirates defender Deano van Rooyen to have fouled Pule Mmodi inside the box.

And it took seven minutes for the Buccaneers to equalise through Evidence Makgopa’s header from a Deon Hotto assist.

Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart sent the stadium into a frenxy when he netted Amakhosi’s second goal in the 80th minute after a cross from Ashley du Preez.
