The late boxing trainer and former professional boxer Emil Brice, who passed away early on Thursday following a long battle with cancer, is going to be laid to rest in Cape Town next Saturday.

A funeral service is going to be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Lansdowne starting at 09h30am.

Having made his professional debut as a boxer with a win over Org Slabbert in March 1978 and his last fight being a loss to Bobby Chisale in April 1983, Brice had been working as a trainer since.

Brice was in Lunga Sitemela’s corner when he beat Sibusiso Zingange by a 10th round stoppage to win the South African junior-lightweight title in May 2022. He also led Sitemela to World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-lightweight glory after a third round knockout victory over Botswana’s Steve Bagwasi in Gaborone in June 2023.
