Bekizizwe Maitse’s preparations for his upcoming fight have received a major boost as former world champion Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete is assisting him at the gym.

Maitse has a date with unbeaten Tanzanian boxer Juma Choki whose full name is Juma Ramadhani Juma Kikande in the last-16 stage of the WBC Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next month.

The son of former South African junior-featherweight champion Bongani Mahlangu reached the second round of the tournament after he defeated Colombian boxer Rodolfo Puentes on points while Choki beat Bryx Piala from the Philippines last month.

“He’s fighting against an undefeated Tanzanian. Zolani and the team are here helping prepare Bekizizwe at the WBC Gym,” Maitse’s manager Brad Norman said.

Choki has won 10 fights with three knockouts and a draw. Maitse, on the other hand, has seven victories with three stoppages and a loss.

Tete arrived in Johannesburg together with boxer Theo Nxayiphi on Monday last week and current South African minimumweight champion Mthokozisi Ngxaka joined them on Saturday.

Nxayiphi is preparing for Saturday’s IBF Africa flyweight title contest against Samkelo Frank Sotomela at the Carnival City in Brakpan while Ngxaka is going to make a mandatory title defence next month. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
