If ever there’s anyone who doubted that boxing will indeed return to the Carnival City in Brakpan, then doubt no more as all the boxers who are going to fight on Saturday have made the required weight.
Only Samkelo Frank Sotomela visited the scales twice before making the required weight while Lerato Dlamini didn’t make it, otherwise all the other participants are ready to trade blows.
Coffee Bay-born Sotomela, who’s rated number one in South Africa, clashes with second-rated Theo Nxayiphi in a vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa flyweight title contest with Lucky Monyebane and Katlego Khanyisa competing for the vacant IBF Africa junior-lightweight crown.
Currently, Monyebane is number one in the SA junior-lightweight ratings while Khanyisa is second. And Ishmaeel Kadri faces Lineekela Nghifindaka from Namibia in a vacant IBF Youth featherweight title.
Meanwhile, the tournaments sees the return of Dlamini who has not fought since losing to Japanese boxer Tomoki Kameda in August last year.
Welkom-born Dlamini is fighting against Thai boxer Sukpraserd Pinpothak and Sikho Nqothole faces Reymark Alicaba from the Philippines.
