It was absolute delight for Pyramids FC while it was despair for Mamelodi Sundowns at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo, Egypt, on Sunday evening.

It was so because Pyramids won the CAF Champions League for the first time after they beat Sundowns 2-1 and 3-2 on aggregate to become the kings of Africa.

The home side took the lead in the 24th minute after Fiston Mayele had capitalised on a poor clearance by Sundowns defender Grant Kekana and beat Ronwen Williams. And Pyramids midfielder Ahmed El Samy’s diving header from Mohamed Chibi’s free-kick made it 2-0 in the 56th minute.

Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners pulled one back for the Brazilians in the 76th minute with the help of a deflection off a Pyramids defender.
